Good-bye Fountain Fellow

Last three days drawing in the garden equals too many bug bites.

Another lovely day in the garden.

Secret Garden

The building I live in has a secret garden in the back, it's high brick walls concealing the city alleys and garages that would otherwise be the view. It's so teeny that the few trees form an almost complete canopy above, making it a nice shady and quiet spot to spend the day. Which I did, drawing, with this fountain fellow for company.

Foot

I like that the chinese symbol for foot looks like it has a toenail.

Bookworm Bookplate

Somewhat changed version of the drawing below, adding my name and "Ex Librus" so that I can use it as a bookplate. Designing bookplates is somewhat of an obsession, I've done about 40 so far !

Bookworm and Bookplate

One thing I haven't learned (and so need to !) is not to wait to the last minute to work on my "IF" entry, especially as one, I'm going on a trip tomorrow and have to get up at 5 a.m. ! and two, it was my word this week ! Yikes, think I'd do a better job for my own word for gosh sakes !

So my drawing of Momma bird serving more than your ordinary worm for proper nutrition, isn't quite right yet, but I've run out of time so maybe an updated version later once I've learned more about proper time management.

And just for fun I thought I'd show an old bookplate I designed for myself as it also seemed to fit the theme, except ouch !

Overheard

"Linda, guess what?"
"What ?"
"I'm going to jail !"

Rest of conversation drowned out by the best conspiratorial giggling I've ever heard.

Hand

Today's experiment in trying to draw a hand. If you were looking for the hand cream drawing experiment, that's over at Wally's.

Mouse Mischief

Here's another drawing I did for "Illustration Friday" word of the week "mischief". I did this very quickly so I could meet Friday's deadline so still some tweaking to do. Also, the particular pink I used in this is showing up kinda purple on the web. I tried adjusting it in Photoshop to show correctly but wasn't able to figure out how. Anyone able to tell me what to do ?

Mischief

I had two ideas for "Illustration Friday" word of the week, "mischief". This one I finished, the other I'm still working on and hope to post eventually.

And how cool is this. Someone who attended the Bela Fleck concert I wrote about in a previous post happened upon my blog, saw the sketches I did, and e-mailed me their Flickr site of photos they took of the same event ! It's so neat that now I can compare the two, see what I captured and what I missed. The site is here if you'd like to see too. And thanks "bhozer" for stopping to comment and sharing your photos !

All Tidy

Cleaning up.
Found a ticket and a doodle "inspired" from medieval marginalia.
Combined them to save space.

added 5/12: thought this was the most appropriate drawing to post this link. What fun, Kim's gone a little buggy !

More Musicians

The last of the sketches from Thursday night's concert.

Casey Driessen, who played so furiously I believe I saw sparks, and who's shoes really were bright red,

and Bryan Sutton. It was dark out by now and I couldn't see the paper.

Bela Fleck Acoustic Trio

Sketched last night during the "Bela Fleck Acoustic Trio" concert. I know they're so easily recognizable from my oh so detailed drawing but I'll just give their names anyway. From left to right are Cassey Driessen on fiddle, Bela Fleck on banjo, and Bryan Sutton on guitar. A wonderful evening of music in an incredible setting (Louis Ginter Botanical Gardens) with the unbelievable bonus of Chris Thile and Mark Schatz (members of Nickel Creek whom I had seen the night before) showing up and joining in !

Ambitious Project

It's 2 a.m. and the time to submit an entry to "Illustration Friday" for this week is nearly up, so I'm afraid I'll have to enter just the rough sketch for my take on this week's word. I wish I could say it's because I've been so busy with "work" that I just didn't have the time, but instead must admit it's because I've been too busy going out to concerts (saw Chris two nights in a row !) and movies and various other outings. Not very "ambitious" of me to put play above work but it certainly did make for an enjoyable week ! I'll try and make it up by finishing this soon and also try and work on the other idea I had that I liked even better but just couldn't figure out how to render.

Nickel Creek

Going to see Nickel Creek tomorrow. I took this drawing with me when Chris Thile, my favorite member of the group, was in concert here with Edgar Meyer, and he signed it !
