Rita

I've never drawn Rita before, always fun and a bit nerve wrecking to try something new.

dvd scribble

pausing and scribbling a scene from "Antonia's Line", I love how gracefully she held her hand on his shoulder.

One of my favorite illustrators, Maira Kalman, will be interviewed tommorrow at 3 p.m. (EST) by Debbie Millman of Design Matters, you can listen to the live stream here.

lickety-split

started copying the basketball players from a photo when I looked up to see the oh so elusive Mr. Whitlow sitting before me! I've been wanting to draw him forever but only managed a super speedy scribble knowing he would lickety-split in an instant, which he did.

back to the ball players, and Melvin.

in lieu of a drawing

still working on a drawing for the next stanza of my "illustrated poem" entry, so, while I continue with it, for today I'll share this animation, created by Konstantin Bronzit, entitled "At the Ends of the Earth", introduced to me from the list of favorites on Isabel Bouttens' drawing blog. This is so delightful, I love it! More about the animator at Melnitsa Studios.

not finished

Playing and experimenting with drawings for each stanza of "Cat Naps are Too Good for Cats" by Ogden Nash, here the 2nd
Bolt upright at my desk I sit,
My elbows digging into it,
My chin into my hands doth fit,
My careful fingers screen my eyes,
And all my work before me lies,
Which leads inquisitive passer-bys
Who glance my way and see me nod,
To think me wide awake, if odd.
this unfinished but what I have so far, not happy with the face.

sleepy time

For now just a bit of "Cat Naps Are Too Good For Cats" by Ogden Nash.
Oh, early every afternoon
I like a temporary swoon.
I do not overeat at luncheon,
I do not broach the bowl or puncheon;
Yet the hour from two to three
Is always sleepy-time to me.
